Microdermabrasion is a gentle and mechanical exfoliation treatment. This exfoliation is performed with a diamond-tipped wand with a mild suction. The wand glides over the skin to buff away superficial dry and dead skin cells. This treatment is more aggressive than everyday home exfoliation but gentle enough that it leaves skin looking untouched. This is a celebrity-favorite treatment as this procedure can be done all year round for a radiant and smoother complexion with no down time. We call this treatment “The Stop and Glow”.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion include the following:

Circulation – This treatment can improve blood and lymphatic circulation deep within the skin and lead to improved internal health of the skin. Enhanced blood flow means increased oxygen and nutrients to cells and can enhance skin elasticity.

Enhances Product Efficacy – By removing dry and dead skin cells, this enhances the absorption of skincare products by the skin by up to 50%. This can also be beneficial as a pre-treatment before certain peels or laser treatments, making skin more receptive.

Reduce Pore Size, Blemishes, And Pigmentation – This treatment is very effective in unclogging pores and leads to reduced pore size. By removing top layers of the skin, it can also fade pigmentation, blemishes, and correct uneven skin tone.

How the Procedure Works

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment using a diamond-tip wand to superficially exfoliate the top layer of the skin and removing the debris and impurities with the suction. The outer layer of your skin is made up of dead skin cells and acts as a barrier for skin products to effectively penetrate, therefore making it difficult for you skin to use most of the ingredients. Once the skin is exfoliated not only does it reveal healthier and brighter skin, it allows your skin care products to work more effectively.

What The Procedure Feels Like

This treatment is gentle and pain free. During the treatment, patients will feel a mild suction combined with a mild “sandpaper” feeling that is gently buffing the skin, most patients find this treatment relaxing! There are different crystal grades available depending on if the patients prefer a light or more aggressive treatment. It may feel more “scratchy” depending on which tip is used.

who is a good candidate

Microdermabrasion is safe and very beneficial for all skin types. Everyone can benefit from exfoliations whether you have younger or more mature skin. Exfoliations are needed to remove dead skin, increase cellular turnover and to improve product absorption. As it is a mechanical exfoliation, treatment can be tailored to suit different skin types. The suction pressure can be adjusted and the grades of crystals available vary from fine to coarse and can be selected.

Number of Treatments

Microdermabrasion is the perfect treatment to have done all year round as it is not a photosensitive procedure and has no downtime. These treatments need to be performed once every 2-4 weeks for continued improvement. Typically, a series of 6-8 sessions are recommended for corrective results. It can also be used as maintenance treatments every 4-6 weeks or whenever the skin needs a refresher.

What To Expect Immediately After Treatment

The beauty of this treatment is there is no downtime! Immediately after treatment, the skin will be slightly pink and plump and patients will feel some tightness and tingling.

When To Expect Results

Even after just one treatment you will notice your skin looking radiant and feeling buttery soft. If patients are looking for improvement of a specific skin concern, a series of sessions will be needed with significant improvement in skin halfway through the series of sessions.
